PAIN MANAGEMENT THERAPY
Learn how to respond differently to pain, calm your nervous system and take back control of your life
Living with chronic or persistent pain can feel overwhelming and exhausting. When pain continually affects your everyday life you may find yourself worrying about your symptoms, medication, treatments or different ways of managing your symptoms are not working.
Do you avoid activities, constantly check how your body feels or worry if this is just how life is now?
THERE IS ANOTHER WAY TO APPROACH PERSISTANT PAIN…
I’ve developed my own Chronic Pain Management programme, ran over 8 sessions it combines evidence based treatments from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Pain Reprocessing Therapy and Clinical Hypnotherapy to help you understand your pain, change the way you respond to symptoms and develop practical skills for managing pain in every day life.
When pain triggers worry or fear, we may become tense, focus more closely on our symptoms or start avoiding activities. Over time, this can reduce confidence and increase distress, which can make the experience of pain feel even more overwhelming.
Understanding this cycle is the first step towards changing it.
How Can Therapy Help you Cope With Chronic Pain?
Pain is a complex experience involving the brain, body and nervous system.
When pain continues for a long time (chronic pain), the nervous system can become increasingly sensitive and the brain can learn to associate certain sensations, movements or situations with danger.
Chronic pain can create a cycle that keeps the body and brain on high alert.
The good news is that the cycle can be changed.
CBT can help you understand and change the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that maintain this cycle.
Pain Reprocessing helps you explore your relationship with pain and develop a less fearful response to situations.
Clinical hypnotherapy and relaxation techniques can help you develop skills for calming your body and mind.
Together, these approaches can provide you with a personalised set of skills to manage persistent pain.
You will learn skills that can help you…
Manage reactive thoughts
Reduce catastrophising
Manage anxiety around pain
Challenge unhelpful beliefs
Reduce avoidance
Build confidence
Set realistic goals
Improve your ability to cope with difficult days
“I had never experienced being hypnotised before and I found it deeply relaxing, it was profound when Natasha introduced the pain dial as I experienced making my pain go up and I was able to also reduce the pain, this has made me feel confident that I can use this skill for my upcoming procedure.”
